Utah Jazz: Brewer's worth coming into focus

Utah Jazz: Brewer's worth coming into focus Denver ? The market for Ronnie Brewer came into clearer focus Wednesday after the Oklahoma City Thunder agreed to a four-year contract extension with guard Thabo Sefolosha , who was taken one spot ahead of Brewer in the 2006 draft.

Sefolosha's deal is believed to be worth an average of $3.3 to 3.75 million a year.

The Jazz are facing a Saturday deadline to come to agreement with Brewer on a contract extension. Brewer otherwise would become a restricted free agent at season's end.

Sefolosha becomes the fourth player from the 2006 draft class to sign an extension, joining Toronto's Andrea Bargnani and Portland's Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge . Sefolosha also is the most comparable to Brewer as a player.

He is a year older than Brewer at 25 and was taken No. 13 overall in 2006. Sefolosha averaged 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds with Oklahoma City last season, starting 22 of 23 games after he was acquired by the Thunder in a trade from Chicago.

Brewer is entering his third season as a full-time starter and has been a double-figurer scorer for two Jazz playoff teams. He averaged 13.7 points and 3.7 rebounds last season and has expressed a desire to remain in Utah.

Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor declined to comment on how Sefolosha's signing will impact negotiations with Brewer, whose agent, Henry Thomas , didn't return a message.

Korver update

Kyle Korver underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday in New York to remove a bone spur from his left knee. The Jazz , however, will wait to set a timetable for Korver's recovery until he is reevaluated Nov. 9 as part of a trip to play the Knicks.

"It sounded like it was about what they expected," O'Connor said.

Korver, who missed all but one of the Jazz's preseason games with inflammation in his knee, isn't expected to return for several weeks.

Storm tracker

Even if it was only Oct. 28, the Jazz were greeted by a winter storm projected to dump more than a foot of snow on Denver by the time it ends today.

"You never know what to expect in places where they get snow," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "I think we had a snow on June 26th one time in Salt Lake. That was kind of strange, but you take whatever you get in the weather department."

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform the national anthem before Friday's home opener against the Clippers. It will mark only the second time the choir has performed at a Jazz game, the other being the 2001 opener.
