Oklahoma City Thunder Roster Report 2009-09-04

Oklahoma City Thunder Roster Report 2009-09-04PLAYER NEWS:

--G James Harden is a versatile addition to the backcourt that GM Sam Presti believes is the perfect complement to the group already in place. Harden had a solid Summer League and should join the rotation once the season starts.

"We feel that James is a player that's capable of doing several different things from the backcourt and rounds out our perimeter," Presti said.

--Kevin Durant went back in the gym this summer determined to take his budding All-Star talents to the next level. He took part in USA Basketball's summer camp, along with Russell Westbrook. Durant has worked to improve his strength and conditioning. It isn't so much about muscle or sheer power, as it was about balance and durability.

"He's once again taken a very focused and professional approach to building his game this summer," Sam Presti said.

--G Russell Westbrook continues to impress the front office with his work ethic and leadership. Coming off his rookie season, Westbrook volunteered for extra Summer League duty this offseason.

"We feel like he has a great deal of potential and upside," Sam Presti said. "We're thrilled with his drive and passion for the game now as when we drafted him."

--G Thabo Sefolosha (dislocated finger) didn't play the last several games of the season as a precautionary measure. He didn't need surgery.

--G Desmond Mason (knee surgery) is expected to make a full recovery. He'll be ready for training camp if he remains with the team.

--G Kyle Weaver (thumb surgery) is expected to be fine by training camp.

James Harden, G, 6-5, Arizona State (first round) -- Expected to challenge for a starting spot as a rookie. Physical with high basketball I.Q. Can score, get to the rim and defend.

B.J. Mullens, C, 7-1, Ohio State (first round) -- A definite project who started only two games during his freshman and only season in college. Good hands and athletic.

Robert Vaden, G, 6-5, Alabama-Birmingham (second round) -- Averaged 17.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists as a senior. Fastest player in UAB history to reach the 1,000-point scoring plateau.
