Oklahoma City Thunder Notes, Quotes 2009-02-28
--Despite playing just one year at Texas, Kevin Durant made an indelible mark. His contributions were recognized Wednesday when the school retired his No. 35 jersey.

"I told myself I wasn't going to cry, but once they played the video highlights and unveiled the jersey, I got real emotional," Durant said. "It was one of the best days of my life. I've come a long way.

"A lot of people doubted me when I was growing up. A lot of people doubted me and said I wouldn't be anything at Texas. It feels good to prove all those people wrong and shine some light on the university and Oklahoma City. It was exciting for me and my family."

--February figured to be a tough month for the Thunder and it was. Playing eight playoff-caliber teams and closing with a road back-to-back, Oklahoma City is 2-9 so far with one game left. The Thunder were 7-7 in January.

"If we want to be a playoff team, we have to be able to beat those teams," center Nick Collison said of the Thunder's future. "We're a long way from it right now, but we can't look at the schedule and give up on these games. We have to get some of them."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The one thing I like about our team is there's no excuses. We know that Kevin went out. We never brought it up. We just kept battling." -- Coach Scott Brooks, on losing to Dallas in overtime Friday, despite Kevin Durant leaving the game in the first quarter.
