Oklahoma City Thunder Notes, Quotes 2009-10-02

Oklahoma City Thunder Notes, Quotes 2009-10-02--Kevin Durant turned 21 at the start of training camp. Not too many players can say they've accomplished what the former second pick of the draft has accomplished before being of legal drinking age.

"It's very humbling, and I'm very blessed to be given the opportunities I was given coming into this league," Durant said. "And having some of the players that I've played with and the coaching staffs that I've played for has been a blessing. They've done everything they can for me, and so it feels good. Just to be one of the elite is a great feeling for me."

Thunder coach Scott Brooks has witnessed Durant's NBA growth from Day 1.

"Being able to do the things that he's individually accomplished speaks for itself," Brooks said. "I've been fortunate to be with the team going on three years, and you see his improvement. You thought that he was pretty good as a rookie, and you saw improvement as a second-year player. You only see the improvement because he works at it. The guy's a gym rat. He gets after it every day."

--D.J. White had the majority of his rookie season wiped out by jaw surgery. But when he did return late in the season, the rugged power forward impressed in the D-League and during his short stint with the big club.

"This is basically my first training camp," White said. "I'm just happy to be healthy and getting ready for the season."

White doesn't have a set spot in the rotation, but with his size (6-9, 251), he has the potential to contribute down low. The Thunder could use the help.

"Defensive rebounding, that's something I think we need as a team," White said. "Just to score when I can in open opportunities. I feel like I can knock down open shots and things like that, so I think I can help the team in those areas."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We still have a young team. We're still trying to get better. Last year wasn't too good, but we have a lot of room to improve. This is just the start of things." -- Jeff Green, on the upcoming season.
