Oklahoma City Thunder Notes, Quotes 2008-12-14
--Interim coach Scott Brooks grew up a 76ers fan, and his favorite players were Dr. J and Maurice Cheeks. He also began his NBA career with Philadelphia as a backup to Cheeks.

Understandably, he took the news of Cheeks being fired Saturday hard.

"That's my buddy," Brooks said. "That's a guy that I looked up to. No one wants to see that happen, but we all understand it's a tough business."

Throughout Brooks' rookie season, he carried Cheeks' jersey and shoes. At the end of the season, Brooks didn't return the jersey. Well, Cheeks eventually saw it again.

"Five years later I had Maurice sign it," Brooks said with a laugh.

--F Kevin Durant wasn't in college long, but he sure made his impact felt in the Lone Star State. Durant starred during his one season at the University of Texas, winning a number of Player of the Year awards.

While in Austin, he made it a point to get to Dallas and San Antonio for NBA games from time to time.

"Just being in Texas is going to bring back a lot of memories for me," Durant said. "I used to go with my teammates sometimes to the games."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Effort doesn't show up in the win column. If we keep the effort, play the game hard and play the game smart, we're going to get the opportunities to win the close games. The bottom line is we're in a position where we have to stay together." -- Coach Scott Brooks.
