Thunder coach Scott Brooks refused to say he was content with the Thunder's 5-5 record through 10 games, but he does see progress in his team. "I wouldn't use the word happy, but I like what we've done," Brook said. "We went into training camp and focused on defense, and I see that being pretty consistent...And guys are giving effort. I can't complain about the effort." Seven of the Thunder's 10 games have been decided in the game's final minutes. One contest was a blowout win against Orlando, and the other two, losses to Portland and Houston came down to the fourth quarter.
The Thunder ranks fifth in opponent scoring at 90.3 points per game and in the top 10 in opponent field goal percentage, allowing just 43.8 percent shooting. The offense has been stagnant at times, though, and Brooks said the Thunder needs to continue to work on spacing, ball movement and setting up each other for easier shots.
GREEN, BEASLEY SET TO BATTLE TONIGHT
Jeff Green has an unusual assignment tonight against Heat power forward Michael Beasley, one of the few power forwards who can play inside and out as well as Green.
"He's very talented," Green said. "He can use either hand. He plays hard and can shoot on the perimeter and play on the block. So he's a tough guard."
Beasley's scoring is slightly down from last year's 13.9-point average, and his shooting percentages have slipped as well. But Beasley's rebounds, steals and blocks have increased, and Green said he's seen improvement out of the No. 2 overall pick in 2008 out of Kansas State.
"Most definitely," Green said. "I think every player matures after one year. You get better on the court, and you can see a lot of improvement in his game."
